One obvious way of including IF in a MUD is treating the IF like a quest, a specific part, even a modular part, that a PC takes action on. So the PC needs to go to some location or find an NPC.
…’twas a cold and stormy night.
On a gust of wind the oak door of Ye Olde Parser Inn slams open.
A while back there was an interesting thread over at MudLab, about changing equipment in multi-dimensional movement.
Just want to highlight the “IF to read” page I’m beginning.
Another notable development (not directly related to Kooneiform, I admit) is the new page over at SourceForge for Seyed’s mud project (I’m writing content). In early alpha, The Grid. The mud is written in java, uses XML docs for things like NPC scripts, and will be one of the few muds of its theme (in fact I can think of only one other mud with the same theme). So far it’s a fun project.
What are the elements of a social warfare mud?
Most muds (perhaps all?) login new players as an individual PC. Many muds allow NPC pets and minions. I’d like to see more muds, or just a mud, that logins new players as a PC group — a collection of individuals.
For my side mud project, Sub Rosa, I want to create a system of secrets and rumors, where the accumulation of ’secrets’ in-game and the manipulation of rumors increases a player’s influence.
Craig Perko wrote an interesting entry over at ProjectPerko about “time and space”.
